WHAT IS THE JUVENILE CENTER?

​

   Created by Don Bosco with the name of Oratory = house of prayer; preferably serves the needy young people. Its main purpose is the full development of your personal resources within a Christian view of life. It helps to achieve concrete goals.
   It gives recipients the possibility to develop their own cultural, social, artistic, recreational interests, with educational activities that lead young people, children, and adults to assimilate human values.
   The Youth Center gives preference to abandoned socially and culturally poor children and their families. Our Youth Center serves the neighborhoods Sítio Residencial Santa Luzia, Chácara São Pedro, and surroundings.
   It serves poor families on an affective, moral, material and spiritual level, and for that very reason, exposed to indifference, atheism, and delinquency.
   Helps young people of the popular class to go to work, providing courses that help them in their professional activity;
   It adheres to the poor and humble, as it is his favorite audience: “Blessed are the poor because theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (Mt 5,3).
It enters the common reality of the needy family. He puts himself at the service of the brothers, not only the material goods but also the very gifts that God has endowed him with.

Goals

Main goal:

   Facilitate the physical (or motor), affective (or emotional), intellectual (or cognitive) and social development of children and adolescents served by the Youth Center, seeking to guarantee their rights under the ECA
Specific objectives:

   1. To provide activities of social relevance, that attend the process of emancipation from the relations of domination and exploitation of society.
   2. Exercising citizenship with them, the “feeling of belonging to a community”, unveiling their own dignity.

What do we do?

​

   The Youth Center provides, in general, school support, food, basic food baskets, medicines, medical assistance, school supplies, arts, computing, educational lectures, dance, theater, puppet, capoeira, music, painting, drawing, games, handicrafts, educational films, snacks, sports, medical, dental, speech therapy, psychological, laboratory, among other activities.

We reach

   In the work of the São Domingos Sávio Youth Center, approximately 60 families are registered, serving 150 people/month.

​

   This project is feasible with the collaboration of Salesian Alumni, Friends of Don Bosco, Salesian Cooperators, São João Bosco Parish, ForteSul, Salesian and Parishioners of São João Bosco Parishes.

   It promotes actions of social formation, giving the needy people opportunities for education, social inclusion, citizenship, and appreciation of life, based on Don Bosco's pedagogy.
